Observing Sean Hannity "work a room" is like watching someone welcome a good friend into his home.
There is no glad-handing, no feigned interest in what his guest is saying, no forced smile.
Rather, there is a warm handshake, meaningful conversation, deep appreciation for the individual and that unmistakable Hannity charm.
In a word, Sean Hannity is ... adorable.
There, I said it. Might as well get right out there in the open for all the world to read.
Sean is intelligent, genuinely kind, correct on the issues ... and drop-dead gorgeous.
And what red-blooded conservative woman thinks otherwise?
Yes, I am happily married and madly in love with my husband, Andy, of nearly 20 years. And my hubby, good sport that he is, loves to tease me anytime I might be attending a meeting or event with the handsome Hannity. "You're not going to see him again, are you?" he laments in his most dramatic impersonation of a "worried" Wendy Whiner.
The truth be known, Andy loves Sean too. Although I have to admit, I've never heard him refer to Hannity as adorable. (Thank the Lord.)
But I digress.
Several weeks back, I had the opportunity to attend a small luncheon with Hannity just before he met with nearly 1,000 fans in a D.C. bookstore to celebrate the rollout of his newest book, "Deliver Us From Evil: Defeating Terrorism, Despotism, and Liberalism."
I love to study human beings and their interaction with others. You can tell a lot about a person - especially a famous one - by the way he treats both the famous and the average. He looks each person directly in the eye as if they're the only one in the room for that moment, listens intently to what they have to say and graciously accepts both compliments and criticism.
And those who know Sean much better than I have told me that he is a person of outstanding integrity, incredible generosity, and a loving and devoted husband and father. Sean proudly and humbly refers to his wife, Jill, as the "love of his life," and his two children as "the greatest gift God ever gave me." And far beyond the view of the casual observer, those who work with Sean admire him most for the way his life is a reflection of his deep Christian faith.
So why am I telling you all this?
Because in this time of mega-media stars, American "idols" and an endless supply of pontificating politicians, it's hard to know who's truly a decent person, and who is just another snot.
Hannity doesn't just appear to be an American hero - he's the real deal.
That's why his hard-hitting book, Deliver Us From Evil, "Deliver Us From Evil: Defeating Terrorism, Despotism, and Liberalism" is a must-read.
This genuinely "nice guy" shows just how much he cares for America and individuals by writing one of the most courageous and principled books on principles I've seen in a long time. Sean conquers liberal lies, ignorance, failure and hypocrisy by boldly exposing them as such.
Take for instance, his indictment of former President Clinton's failure to deal with terrorism:
President Clinton, in short, has taught us all a costly lesson in the perils of modern-day appeasement. In his preoccupation with political matters, and his essential reluctance to view terrorists or brutal dictators as a military threat, he failed to stand up to evil, and in so doing gravely compromised our national security ... Bill Clinton wasn't asleep at the wheel. He just refused to drive - and Americans paid for his folly and lack of leadership with their lives.
Or Sean's well-documented chronology of John Kerry's backpedaling, sidestepping, web of lies about his now infamous flip-flopping votes on the war in Iraq:
The reason John Kerry has such different reasons for his vote is that he doesn't want to tell the truth ... in his constant shifting, waffling and flip-flopping on the tough questions of the day - Kerry has proven to be guided not by a strong moral compass, but by the shifting sands of pure political opportunism ...
Sometimes Kerry's hypocrisy is so flagrant that it's hard to imagine what he was thinking. After roundly denouncing President Bush for his appearance on the USS Abraham Lincoln to welcome home troops from the Middle East, Kerry formally announced his presidential candidacy standing on an aircraft carrier in South Carolina.
Of course, "Deliver Us From Evil" contains brilliant explanations and defenses of conservative principles Americans have come to count on Hannity to deliver. But in a most compelling fashion, Sean also has the guts to call evil for what it is, and the boldness to illuminate truth as the only answer.
Because he lives what he believes, Sean Hannity has earned the right to do both.
