The pictures and images of the chaos in Afghanistan over the last week have reminded us again of how fragile human life is and of the fundamental value of freedom and peace.
President Biden’s decision to quickly withdraw all U.S. troops from Afghanistan and permanently close Bagram Air Base has stranded as many as 80,000 desperate people who still need to be evacuated from behind enemy lines. These include thousands of U.S. citizens and allies as well as tens of thousands of Afghans who risked their lives—and the lives of their families to help U.S. troops.
This humanitarian crisis brings into focus the human cost of war and the common ground we share with our allies.
We should stand with the Afghan people who stood with our soldiers and want to live in peace. Your voice and values can make a difference!
