WASHINGTON—Today, The Heritage Foundation issued a statement in response to the passing of Richard V. “Dick” Allen—co-founder of Heritage’s Asian Studies Center and dedicated public servant. Mr. Allen died on November 16, 2024, at 88.
Known for his expertise in foreign affairs and national security policy, Allen joined Heritage as a Distinguished Fellow in 1982, where he co-founded Heritage’s Asian Studies Center. Mr. Allen served as National Security Advisor to President Ronald Reagan and as assistant to the National Security Advisor under President Richard Nixon. Allen graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a B.A. and M.A. degree.
Heritage Founder and Chairman of the Asian Studies Center Advisory Council, Dr. Edwin J. Feulner, stated:
“During the Reagan years, Dick and I worked closely together in establishing Heritage's Asian Studies Center to keep America’s national interest in Asia alive in the post-Vietnam War era.
“His unwavering commitment to our shared principles never diminished and we will miss his friendship and wise advice on so many matters.”
Heritage Vice President of the Kathryn and Shelby Cullom Davis Institute for National Security and Foreign Policy, Victoria Coates, added:
“Heritage mourns the loss of a great American patriot. Dick’s vision and leadership expanded Heritage’s foreign policy and national security influence.
“Today, and every day, we honor his legacy and thank him for his service to this great nation.”
