In a Constitution Day speech at the National Archives, President Donald Trump praised the efforts of Heritage Foundation visiting fellow Wilfred McClay for helping the National Endowment for the Humanities to promote a pro-American and patriotic national curriculum.

“Under our leadership, the National Endowment for the Humanities has awarded a grant to support the development of a pro-American curriculum that celebrates the truth about our nation’s great history,” said Trump. “We are joined by some of the respected scholars involved in this project, including Professor Wilfred McClay.”

Trump also announced in his remarks that he would soon sign an executive order to establish a commission to promote patriotic education called the “1776 Commission” in hopes of encouraging educators to teach children about American history.

McClay joined Heritage as a visiting fellow at the Simon Center for American Studies, a department within the Feulner Institute, which was founded to protect traditional American ideals and to share those values with Americans of all backgrounds across the country. He was able to provide his insight to the National Endowment for the Humanities panel from his years of experience on the topics of American exceptionalism, federalism, and American history.

Another visiting fellow in Heritage’s Simon Center, Allen Guelzo, recently spoke on a panel as part of the White House Conference on American History. Guelzo used his time to highlight the importance of learning American history, and criticize those who seek to destroy our history or malign it as evil.

Angela Sailor, vice president of Heritage’s Feulner Institute, expressed her deep appreciation for the hard work and dedication the visiting scholars put into pushing a pro-American message.

“The time and effort Drs. McClay and Guelzo contributed to the upcoming 1776 Commision will lay the groundwork for better and more honest education for our children,” Sailor said. “Anti-American messaging such as the 1619 Project and critical race theory have no place in our schools and I want to thank our scholars for all the research they put into this new curriculum.”

Heritage has created its own curriculum resource for parents as well as “A Celebration of America,” rebutting attempts by the left to rewrite history.
