WASHINGTON—Mark Morgan, former acting commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and a Heritage Foundation visiting fellow, released the following statement Friday in response to the murder of Cpl. Charles Galloway, an officer with the Harris County Constable’s office in Houston, Texas. During a routine traffic stop Sunday, Galloway was shot to death by Oscar Rosales, an illegal alien with a criminal record stretching more than two decades:
“How many more families need to be shattered, communities devastated, and lives lost before Joe Biden turns from his destructive open-borders policies and chooses to uphold the laws of this country?
“More than 100,000 Americans died of drug overdoses in 2021, in large part due to record levels of fentanyl and methamphetamines flooding across our border. Thousands of migrants carrying COVID-19 have been released into American communities across the country. And now a dedicated public servant has been killed in the line of duty by someone who should have been deported long ago.
“Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, and Alejandro Mayorkas have not only thrown our borders wide open, but have also made it nearly impossible for federal law enforcement to arrest and deport those already here illegally. In many cases, they have been aided and abetted by far-left mayors and governors who choose to violate the law and harbor illegal aliens. And we know that a substantial number of hardened criminals and gang members were among the 600,000 or more illegal aliens who evaded Border Patrol and entered our country in the past year—individuals who will only cause more havoc and suffering in our communities.
“As a former local law enforcement officer, my heart breaks for the police force in Harris County, and I am filled with anger on behalf of the men and women of the Harris County Constable’s office. This administration has blood on its hands, and it’s time Americans held them to account.”
