WASHINGTON—Today marks the 50th anniversary of the March for Life, with thousands of Americans marching in Washington to spread the message of the inherent dignity of every person, especially the unborn.
Roger Severino, vice president of domestic policy at the Heritage Foundation, made the following statement Friday about the March for Life:
“Overturning Roe v. Wade last summer was just the beginning of a new era for the March for Life and the pro-life movement—with the ultimate goal being an America where every person, from conception, is protected and welcomed in life and law.
“Heritage is proud to be a sponsor for the March for Life and to have advocated since its founding for pro-life policies that support baby, mother, and the entire family. But there is so much more that needs to be done to protect life.
“With a new pro-life majority in the House of Representatives, lawmakers must advance policies that limit the destruction that is abortion. Congress should immediately outlaw infanticide and require that babies that survive abortions receive appropriate medical care. Congress must prohibit a baby’s diagnosis of Down syndrome from being a death sentence. Congress must defund the abortion industry.
“The abortion lobby is seeking to foist dangerous chemical abortion drugs on vulnerable women with the help of the radical Biden administration that is turning local Walgreens into abortion clinics. We know at least 28 women have already died from these dangerous chemicals that not only end the lives of babies but put mothers at grave risk.
“These are all necessary first steps to revitalize a culture of life that supports parents and makes abortion unthinkable.”
