WASHINGTON—Following the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing titled “Supreme Court Ethics Reform,” Tom Jipping, senior legal fellow at The Heritage Foundation, released the following statement:
“Our liberty requires that judges stick to their designed role, settling legal disputes by impartially interpreting and applying the law. The Left is more interested in power than liberty and, therefore, is trying to manipulate the courts to produce decisions that serve their political interests. They brand decisions they don’t like, or justices unlikely to follow their political script, as partisan or unethical. They want to solve this fake problem by creating ways for political activists to harass and try to intimidate the justices. This campaign has one sure end, destroying the independence and impartiality of the judiciary and undermining the liberty we have enjoyed.
“Today’s hearing exposed how selectively targeted the Left’s criticisms have been, and even their own witnesses did not agree that Congress can force the Supreme Court to issue its own enforceable ethics code.”
