WASHINGTON—Heritage Foundation Tech Policy Center Director Kara Frederick released the following statement Thursday applauding Sen. John Thune for introducing the Artificial Intelligence Research, Innovation, and Accountability Act. This legislation takes a narrowly targeted approach to AI governance, which avoids innovation-killing overregulation. 

Frederick emphasized the importance of transparency in AI decision-making, stating:  

 “This bill rightfully prioritizes transparency for AI in high-risk settings, ensuring accountability while leaving room for innovation. Striking this balance is critical to harness the power of AI while safeguarding Americans from potential harm.
