WASHINGTON—Just seven months after taking office, the Biden administration is projecting chaos and confusion—both domestically and on the world stage. As the administration reels from a self-inflicted crisis in Afghanistan, Democrats in Congress, in concert with the White House, are working to advance a radical reconciliation bill that would not only add trillions more to our national debt, but that also includes leftist wish-list items like mass amnesty for illegal aliens, Green New Deal 2.0, and more.

Tommy Binion, vice president of government relations at The Heritage Foundation, released the following statement Tuesday:

“The Biden administration may only be seven months old, but it has already proven incapable of competent leadership or sound decision-making. As leftists in Congress scheme with the White House to pass a massive, $3.5 trillion ‘reconciliation’ bill, we should ask one question: Why should we give this administration even more control of our economy and input on our lives, when it has utterly botched so many issues already?

“The Biden administration has utterly bungled the situation in Afghanistan, withdrawing U.S. forces before Americans and Afghan partners with special immigrant visas (SIVs) were evacuated, and creating a power vacuum the Taliban has quickly filled. These rash actions have led to questions not only about the Biden administration’s competence in conducting foreign policy, but also in protecting and advancing American interests here at home.

“The maladministration doesn’t stop there. The Biden administration has thrown open our borders, creating the worst border crisis in American history. It has signed into law trillions of dollars in wasteful spending, causing inflation and prices to skyrocket.

“This reconciliation measure would only make things worse. It is not a good deal for Americans. It would help pave the way for a catastrophic tax-and-spend package, destroying countless jobs and discourage investment when we need it most. It will create an unprecedented cradle-to-grave welfare state, making Americans more reliant than ever on a federal government that daily proves its own incompetence. And it will cement into law numerous policies, like mass amnesty, that will undermine our sovereignty and both our national and economic security.

“We cannot afford to empower an administration that has handed Afghanistan over to terrorists, thrown open our southern border, and caused massive inflation through reckless spending. Enough is enough. The break-neck race toward chaos must end now.”
