WASHINGTON—Congress gave Majority Leader Chuck Schumer carte blanche authority to raise the debt ceiling Tuesday, voting to pass the $2,500,000,000 increase in the debt limit and paving the way for President Joe Biden’s deficit-busting, reckless tax-and-spend spree.
Matthew Dickerson, director of the Hermann Center for the Federal Budget at The Heritage Foundation, released a statement on the implications of the enormous hike:
“It’s time for members of Congress to stop talking about fiscal responsibility, and actually put their money where their mouths are. Talk is cheap, but unfortunately the cost of their spending is not. Reaching the $29 trillion debt limit should have served as a wake-up call to Congress to stop this unsustainable spending.
“For decades, the debt limit has served as an important opportunity for both sides to responsibly work together to slow the growth of spending, reduce future deficits, and ease the burden on American taxpayers.
“Instead, this $2,500,000,000 debt-limit increase paves the way for Biden’s big-government, socialist agenda that will hurt working Americans and worsen the inflation, labor shortages, and supply chain disruptions they are facing.”
