Following the U.S. Senate’s vote to confirm Brett Kavanaugh to the U.S. Supreme Court to serve as an Associate Justice, John Malcolm, Vice President of Heritage’s Institute for Constitutional Government and Director of the Meese Center for Legal & Judicial Studies, issued the comment below:
“After a contentious confirmation process, the Senate has wisely voted to confirm Judge Brett Kavanaugh to serve as an Associate Justice on the U.S. Supreme Court. This is an outstanding development for the country and for the rule of law.
“Back in March 2016, I wrote an article putting forth several names of individuals whom I thought would make outstanding Supreme Court Justices. That list included Judge Kavanaugh.I wrote: “Since joining the bench, Kavanaugh has distinguished himself as a thoughtful, apolitical jurist, who is not afraid to stake out bold positions on complex issues.”It was true then, and it is true today.
“Under extremely difficult circumstances, Judge Kavanaugh conducted himself with dignity, defending both himself and his judicial philosophy. The nation is fortunate indeed to have the services of such an intelligent and principled individual serving on the High Court.”
