This week, thousands of Americans will gather to mark the 45th annual March for Life in Washington and speak for the most vulnerable and innocent among us—including the 59 million baby girls and boys lost since Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton effectively legalized abortion on demand in 1973. Heritage Foundation research associate Melanie Israel offered the following statement:
“The March for Life participants are diverse, representing a wide range of ages and backgrounds. Their message, however, is unified: there is inherent dignity and worth to each and every human being (born and unborn). For more than four decades, this fundamental truth has motivated the pro-life community to counter the devastating impact abortion has had on our society.
The abortion rate in the U.S. is at its lowest level since 1973, in part thanks to an increasingly pro-life electorate and state-level legislative victories geared toward the health and safety of women and their unborn children. This year’s March theme, ‘Love Saves Lives,’ beautifully demonstrates the mission of the pro-life movement. As pro-life Americans gather once again to give a voice to the voiceless, they do so with a spirit of hope that one day every human being will be protected in law and welcomed in life.”
