Heritage Foundation Unveils Groundbreaking Book on Revitalizing American Nuclear Energy

WASHINGTON—Today, The Heritage Foundation announced the publication of Nuclear Revolution: Powering the Next Generation (Optimum Publishing International), a transformative new book that presents a bold vision for unleashing the full potential of America's nuclear energy sector through free-market reforms.

Author Jack Spencer, Heritage's Senior Research Fellow for Energy and Environmental Policy, draws on his extensive experience advising national policymakers—including testimony before the Blue Ribbon Commission on America's Nuclear Future and Congress—to chart a clear path forward for nuclear energy in America.

Heritage’s Senior Research Fellow for Energy and Environmental Jack Spencer and author of the book, Jack Spencer, stated:

"The United States doesn't need a mere renaissance in nuclear power—we need a revolution," says Spencer. "Despite over half a century of safe operations, outdated regulations continue treating nuclear energy as an experimental technology, stifling its enormous potential to meet America's growing energy demands.

The book reveals how nuclear power, once an economically competitive energy source, became increasingly costly due to regulatory burden—and how targeted policy reforms can restore its affordability while maintaining safety. Through detailed analysis, Spencer demonstrates how free enterprise can drive innovation in the nuclear sector more effectively than government management.

President and Chief Technologist of Filbe Energy, Kirk Sorenson, added:

“In his compelling new book, Jack Spencer blows away tired arguments opposing nuclear power.

“Spencer shows how free enterprise, unshackled from government diktats, can bring the most powerful and clean energy source the world has even known to its rightful place of pre-eminence, lifting the United States and the free world to a brave new era of security and independence.”

Key Insights from Nuclear Revolution:

  • America needs a new approach to nuclear energy built on three pillars: political stability, rational regulation, and properly aligned economic incentives.

  • Decades of misinformation from the anti-nuclear movement continues to negatively influence industry regulations and economic viability.

  • Private sector innovation, when freed from excessive bureaucratic control, can create a uniquely competitive American nuclear industry.
