Heritage Foundation President Kay Coles James issued the following statement Thursday in response to Sen. Orrin Hatch’s introduction of the "Continued Support for the Iranian People Act of 2018." The legislation calls for the United States and its allies to support protesters seeking freedom in Iran.

“The Heritage Foundation will always stand for the principles espoused in the Constitution, and advocate the value and dignity of every human life, here at home, as well as around the world. The right to speak freely and engage in one’s community without fear is an absolutely vital part of any functioning and free civil society.

 

“This legislation is an important signal that the United States will continue leading on the international stage in condemning Tehran’s violence against its own citizens. It is time for the sun to set on the Iranian regime’s days of oppression.”
