Description

Religious freedom is under attack on multiple fronts, but recently has found success in the Supreme Court. While religious adherents and institutions have prevailed in several recent cases before the Court, those wins have been very narrow. For instance, the Court’s decision upholding religious freedom in Masterpiece Cakeshop (2018) did not prevent multiple lawsuits against the same small businessman for “discriminating” under very similar circumstances. In City of Philadelphia v. Fulton (2021), Catholic Social Services won, but the Court declined to overturn a prior decision that many view as limiting Free Exercise rights.
