WASHINGTON — Heritage Foundation President Kay C. James issued the following statement Friday about President Donald Trump’s commitment to defend American values. Today, Trump reiterated his support for the sanctity of life, religious liberty, and Second Amendment.

“We are pleased that the president has reaffirmed this commitment to the sanctity of human life, as well as the additional commitments to affirm religious liberty and the Second Amendment. These two fundamental rights are the first two among equals contained in the Bill of Rights, and just as the Founders enshrined them in the Constitution, the president has wisely promised to continue to uphold them.

 

“There is much the administration can do now, and much the next president could do, to protect these rights. We hope all candidates embrace this commitment and are glad to serve as policy resource for the next administration on how to turn this commitment into policy.”
