WASHINGTON — The U.S. State Department announced a new measure Tuesday requesting that U.S. think tanks publicly disclose financial support from foreign governments. Heritage Foundation spokesman Greg Scott made the following statement:

“The Heritage Foundation takes no money from government entities—whether federal, state, local, tribal, or foreign—for any research activity or any other purpose. This policy allows Heritage to maintain the integrity and independence of its research. This commitment to transparency and integrity has been noted in recent reports, including the Center for International Policy’s “Foreign Influence Transparency Initiative,” which noted Heritage’s policy of refusing financial support from foreign government entities, in particular. Any organization with influence on policy should be transparent about whether it is accepting money from foreign governments, particularly hostile governments like China or Russia.”
