IISS Military Balance
The Military Balance is the International Institute for Strategic Studies’ annual assessment of the military capabilities and defense economics of 171 countries worldwide. There is also an online database, Military Balance+. These resources require a paid subscription.

SIPRI Arms Transfers Database
The SIPRI Arms Transfers Database contains information on all transfers of major conventional weapons from 1950 to the most recent full calendar year. The database can be used to generate detailed written reports (trade registers) and statistical data (trend indicator values, TIV).

SIPRI MIlitary Expenditure Database
The SIPRI Military Expenditure Database contains consistent time series on the military spending of countries. The database is updated annually, which may include updates to data for any of the years included in the database.

SIPRI Arms Industry Database
The SIPRI Arms Industry Database contains information on arms-producing and military services companies. It includes public and private companies, but not manufacturing or maintenance units of the armed services.

ASPI China Defence Universities Tracker
ASPI’s China Defence Universities Tracker is a database of Chinese institutions engaged in military or security-related science and technology research.

NBR & Sasakawa USA: Maritime Awareness Project
The National Bureau of Asian Research & Sasakawa Peace Foundation USA’s Maritime Awareness Project features an interactive map on the maritime issues and disputes in the Asia-Pacific region.

CSIS Asia Maritime Transparency Intiative
The CSIS Asia Maritime Transparency Initiative (AMTI) is an interactive source for information, analysis, and policy exchange on maritime security issues in Asia. Features include: interactive maps, including South China Sea Energy Exploration and Development and a South China Sea Island Tracker database.
