WASHINGTON — The Heritage Foundation presented Rush Limbaugh with its inaugural Titan of Conservatism Award during the organization’s annual President’s Club Meeting. Heritage will honor the famed broadcaster by naming its new state-of-the-art studios the Rush Limbaugh Radio Studios to ensure his legacy continues to shape future generations.

Heritage President Kay C. James made the following statement about Limbaugh and why Heritage selected “America’s Doctor of Democracy” for this honor:

“If there was a ‘Conservative Hall of Fame,’ Rush would no doubt be a first-ballot entry. From behind the golden EIB microphone, he inspired millions of Americans to cherish our God-given rights and freedoms and the country and Constitution that serve to protect them.

“Rush helped bring the conservative movement together three hours a day for a family meeting, he helped everyday Americans realize they were conservative, and he brought millions of new people into the conservative movement.

“The extraordinary reach of his No. 1 rated radio talk show has allowed him to attract listeners with his common sense, everyday-language explanations of why conservatism works and how every American benefits because of it. The conservative movement simply wouldn’t be where it is today without the venerable Rush Limbaugh.

“His story is an example to all of us—to love one’s country, to pursue the good of one’s countrymen, and to work to be the best you can be, each and every day. The entire Heritage family thanks Rush for his lasting legacy of freedom.”

Limbaugh thanked Heritage during Tuesday’s broadcast of his radio program:

“A quick shoutout to The Heritage Foundation. They are building new studios in Washington. Today they are honoring me with the 2020 Titan of Conservatism Award and dedicating the new studios to me. Kay James is making all this happen. I want to thank them very much.

Limbaugh’s storied career began as a teenager, working in broadcasting as a disc jockey for his hometown radio station. He would spend time at radio stations in Pittsburgh and Kansas City before hitting it big as an on-air host at KFBK in Sacramento, California, tripling his daytime talk show’s ratings in just four years.

In 1988, he went to New York, where his record-breaking national show was born. Starting with just 56 radio stations, today, 32 years later, his show is heard on more than 600 stations by up to 27 million people each week. It is the highest-rated national radio talk show in America.

Earlier this year, President Donald Trump awarded Limbaugh the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor. At the president’s February State of the Union address, Trump drew the eyes of the nation to Limbaugh’s incredible achievements and impact on American society—a fitting tribute for a great American.

As the nation’s largest, most broadly supported conservative research and educational institution, The Heritage Foundation has been leading the American conservative movement since our founding in 1973. More than 500,000 dues-paying members support our vision to build an America where freedom, prosperity, opportunity, and civil society flourish.
