WASHINGTON—In celebration of National School Choice Week, The Heritage Foundation announced Thursday that Lindsey Burke, director of Heritage’s Center for Education Policy, has been named as the foundation’s new Kolokotrones Fellow.
The new fellowship was made possible by a donation from Mark A. Kolokotrones, who has served as a member of Heritage’s Board of Trustees since 2015 and has been a Heritage member since 2010. He is also the founder and president of Castle Knoll Investments LLC.
“There is no one better suited to take on the role of Kolokotrones Fellow than Lindsey Burke. Dr. Burke is a true champion for the education choice movement,” said Heritage Foundation President Kay C. James. “Heritage is also deeply grateful to Mark Kolokotrones for making this critical work possible. Mark is a dedicated advocate for school choice in America and is passionate about effective education policy at the federal, state, and local levels. We are indebted to Mark for his help guiding the work of Heritage as a trustee for the past five years and for this amazing contribution to help create better educational outcomes for America’s children.”
“Heritage has led the conservative movement for almost 50 years on behalf of all Americans and I’m proud to continue supporting their work in education policy as we fight to preserve and advance founding principles in our country,” said Kolokotrones.
The Heritage Foundation is committed to ensuring that all children can access the best possible education our country can offer. The Center for Education Policy is particularly focused on education reforms that put the needs of students and families first and has highlighted how students have flourished in areas where education choice policies have been adopted.
“It is an honor to be named the Mark A. Kolokotrones Fellow in Education,” said Burke. “Mark has an unwavering commitment to educational freedom, and a deeply held belief that improvements—whether they be in K-12 education or higher education—come not from government mandates but from individuals who are free to choose learning environments that are the right fit for them. I look forward to holding this fellowship and using it to fight for limited government solutions and education freedom for all Americans.”
As the nation’s largest, most broadly supported conservative research and educational institution, The Heritage Foundation has been leading the American conservative movement since our founding in 1973. More than 500,000 dues-paying members support our vision to build an America where freedom, prosperity, opportunity, and civil society flourish.
