WASHINGTON—Experts from The Heritage Foundation were recently recognized for their work on a number of fronts, including fourHeritage-affiliated authors dominating Encounter Books’ “Top Ten List” in March and Heritage Legal Fellow Amy Swearer receiving prominent coverage in an article in the NRA’s publication, “America’s 1st Freedom.”
Four authors affiliated with Heritage—Mike Gonzalez, Hans von Spakovsky, Ryan T. Anderson, and Wilfred M. McClay—all placed in the top 10 of Encounter’s rundown of favorite books for the month of March.
Two of these books—Gonzalez’s “BLM: The Making of a New Marxist Revolution,” and von Spakovsky’s “Our Broken Elections: How the Left Changed the Way You Vote,” were published in 2021, and cover vitally important policy issues of law and order and election integrity, both of which are key parts of Heritage’s plan to fight for America’s future in 2022 and beyond.

Heritage Legal Fellow Amy Swearer was also recognized by the NRA for speaking the truth about crime in American cities. In a December 2021 hearing, during her testimony on the horrific consequences of soft-on-crime, left-wing prosecutors, Swearer was interrupted by Senate Judiciary Chairman Dick Durbin (D-IL), in an exchange which subsequently went viral.
The NRA reported that:
“Swearer tried to again talk about this case, but Sen. Durbin again interrupted her. He clearly didn’t want this horrifying example of criminals not being prosecuted, even when someone is killed, to get more public attention.”
Ina Daily Signal article, Swearer described the encounter:
“It seems that Durbin was more interested in using Chicago residents as political pawns than in understanding why Chicago’s criminals feel free to shoot whomever they want without fearing consequences.”
