WASHINGTON—Heritage Foundation President Kevin Roberts made the following statement Wednesday about Vice President of Government Relations Tommy Binion, who announced he’s taking a new role at OnMessage Public Strategies. Binion, who worked at Heritage for eight years, including the last four as a vice president, will remain a consultant to Heritage.
“Tommy Binion is a transformational leader who supercharged our government relations team and strengthened Heritage’s relationships with our allies on Capitol Hill and partners in the conservative movement. We are grateful for his dedication to Heritage and commitment to conservative principles. Even though he’s taking on an important new role at OnMessage Public Strategies, I’m delighted that he’ll remain closely connected to our organization.
“From the moment I accepted the job as Heritage’s president, I’ve considered Tommy a trusted colleague and strategic adviser. I’m proud of his accomplishments as a Heritage vice president, most especially his efforts to make Heritage the most effective policy organization in America. Tommy understands what it takes to win and achieve policy victories. His unique strategic insights will be as asset to Heritage and fundamental to our success in the future.”
Throughout his time at Heritage, Binion brought new and innovative ideas to the organization and an effective approach for working with members of Congress and the Trump administration. In 2017, during President Trump’s first year in office, his administration embraced nearly two-thirds of the policy recommendations from Heritage’s “Mandate for Leadership.”
Binion took a hands-on approach to building relationships on Capitol Hill, revitalizing Heritage’s ties to the Republican Study Committee. His team also revamped Heritage’s candidate briefing program, relaunching the popular Solutions book in an easy-to-use digital format and introducing a quarterly magazine called Solutions Journal.
Prior to joining Heritage, Binion worked as a lobbyist at Heritage Action for America. Jessica Anderson, Heritage Action’s executive director, made the following statement about Binion.
“Heritage Action congratulates Tommy on his exciting new role with On Message Public Strategies (OMPS) and know he will bring the same expertise to OMPS as he has with Heritage. We have all benefitted from Tommy’s deep relationships on Capitol Hill and strong leadership of our government relations team. Because of his work at Heritage and Heritage Action, we have been successful in holding Washington accountable to the American people and advocating for meaningful conservative policies in Congress and the White House. We are deeply grateful for his leadership and look forward to working with Tommy in his future role as he continues to serve the conservative movement and fight for our shared priorities. We know he won’t be a stranger!”
