WASHINGTON—The Heritage Foundation announced that Arizona State University professor Colleen Sheehan will join the think tank as the David and Patricia Caldwell visiting fellow in the B. Kenneth Simon Center for American Studies.
The author of “The Mind of James Madison: The Legacy of Classical Republicanism” and “James Madison and the Spirit of Republican Self-Government,” Sheehan will focus on our nation’s founding and assist the organization with several important projects, including a substantial update to The Founders’ Almanac, first published in 2002. She will also help promote the greatness of America’s founding leading up to the upcoming 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
While serving as a visiting fellow, Sheehan will continue to teach politics and ethics in ASU’s School of Civic and Economic Thought and Leadership. Sheehan is a former member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives who also served on the Pennsylvania State Board of Education.
“I am excited to be part of the Heritage Foundation's work to advance an understanding of America's founding principles and vision,” Sheehan said. “If our nation is currently at a political crossroads, as so many citizens believe it is, then clarity about the defining purpose of America—about what we as a people stand for—is of the utmost importance."
John Malcolm, vice president of Heritage’s Institute for Constitutional Government and director of the Simon Center and the Edwin Meese III Center for Legal and Judicial Studies, stated:
“I am delighted that Colleen Sheehan has agreed to serve as a visiting fellow in the Simon Center. Her impeccable academic credentials and strong background on America’s founding will help promote patriotism, offer a positive vision for America, and articulate why American heritage is worth defending. I am also pleased that Colleen will be revising and expanding The Founders’ Almanac, an important book that should be read by all students and everyone else who loves this country.”
