WASHINGTON—Today, The Heritage Foundation announced the hiring of Eugene Kontorovich as a Senior Research Fellow in the Margaret Thatcher Center for Freedom, where he will focus on international law, sovereignty, and Israel issues. Kontorovich is also a professor at George Mason University Antonin Scalia Law School, and director of its Center for the Middle East and International Law.
Kontorovich received his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Chicago. Throughout his distinguished career, he has published over thirty major scholarly articles and book chapters in leading law reviews and peer-reviewed journals in the United States and Europe, including the American Journal of International Law, International Review of Law & Economics, Stanford Law Review, California Law Review, University of Pennsylvania Law Review, and Virginia Law Review.
Kontorovich’s commentary and analysis have appeared in prominent outlets including the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, The Atlantic, Tablet, and more.
Heritage President Kevin Roberts stated:
“I am thrilled to welcome Eugene to the Heritage team. His sharp legal mind, academic rigor, and deep passion for international affairs make him an invaluable addition to our team. No doubt, Eugene’s expertise will bolster Heritage’s leadership as the foremost voice on national security and foreign policy.
“At a time when Israel remains under attack and vital discussions about the Panama Canal and Greenland are resurfacing, his leadership will be instrumental in advancing policies that safeguard America’s interests and promote global stability.”
Professor Eugene Kontorovich remarked:
“I am proud to be joining the extraordinary team at Heritage. I have long admired its work in strengthening American sovereignty, while deepening our alliances.
“There is a historic opportunity to fix our relationship with dysfunctional and hostile international institutions, and to adopt an approach to Israel and the Middle East that does not repeat the failed paradigms of recent decades of peace processing.”
Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX), a member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, added:
“I am thrilled to congratulate Eugene Kontorovich on his appointment as a Senior Research Fellow at the Heritage Foundation. Professor Kontorovich is a distinguished Israeli-American legal scholar whose work has advanced the principles of liberty, sovereignty, and the rule of law, both for Israel and the broader international community. I look forward to seeing the continued impact of his work at the Heritage Foundation.”
Senator Steve Daines (R-MT), a member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, said:
“Eugene Kontorovich is an indispensable expert on Israel and the Middle East. His conservative legal perspective is absolutely vital to helping America’s leaders understand the region and make decisions that advance the best interests of the United States and our most cherished ally, Israel. I congratulate Eugene and Heritage and look forward to working with him to advance America’s and Israel’s interests.”
Heritage Vice President of the Kathryn and Shelby Cullom Davis Institute for National Security and Foreign Policy Victoria Coates commented:
“Eugene is one of the most widely respected experts on the planet when it comes to international law and Israel. We are honored and delighted he has chosen to join our team at Heritage, and we couldn’t be more excited to have him come on board and participate in our work on U.S. and Israeli sovereignty, as well as the U.S.-Israel alliance, at this critical junction.”
Heritage Director of the Margaret Thatcher Center for Freedom Nile Gardiner concluded:
“I am delighted to welcome Eugene Kontorovich to Heritage and the Thatcher Center. His academic rigor and experience with major media outlets will make him invaluable in this new role. I look forward to working with him on advancing Heritage’s mission priorities and advocating for conservative principles in the United States and abroad.”
