United Nations & U.N. Peacekeeping

Working with other governments through the United Nations can be tremendously useful. For instance, U.N. peacekeeping operations can help address unstable situations when the interests of the U.S. do not merit direct involvement. However, not all of U.N. activities are useful and ineffectiveness and other detriments are not acceptable or inevitable costs of the useful activities. The United States should work through the U.N. when it can be effective, but it should demand reforms to address failings and be willing to support alternatives when the U.N. proves unable or unwilling.
